Open Question: Dropping out to get my GED?
I'm 17 and should be a senior in high school this coming school year. However, I made a lot of mistakes which resulted in me only having enough credits to be counted as a sophomore. There's no possible way I can graduate on time. I would have to stay another year. But the thought of doing that makes me physically sick. High school just ISN'T for me. I have social anxiety disorder and the thought of having to go another year makes me feel as if I'd be better off dead. Honestly. I want to drop out to get my GED, but I want to know if I would still be able to get into colleges?
I want to go to the Art Institute of Atlanta to be a graphic designer. Will my GED be as accepted as a high school diploma? Also, how can I convince my mom that getting a GED is a better option for me? There's no way I can see her allowing me to do it. She's so intent on my finishing school. But, honestly, I don't see how I can do another year.
Yes, I know it's my fault for screwing up my credits in the first place and nobody has any idea how much I regret it. I wish I could go back and fix my mistakes. It's too late for that, though. Any advice, opinions or personal experiences with GEDs would be much appreciated. Thank you!
