5 Artists One Love video small file.mpg

5 Artists One Love was held at the Art Gallery of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta February 4th, 2012. Artist/curator Darren Jordan brought together thirteen artists who had previously shown their works in the past four years' 5 Artists One Love exhibits in celebration of Black History Month. Members of the community were invited to submit a 12"x12" painting for 'The Wall'. This years theme for 'The Wall' was the civil rights movement. 5 Artists One Love 2012 was an energetic collaboration of the visual arts, spoken word and the United Colours of Soul Music Show, a retrospect of the African influence in American music. This slide show is a reflection of my personal experience during the afternoon exhibit shared with family and friends.

The Bones' Building - Lydiard Street, Ballarat

The Bones' Building - Lydiard Street, Ballarat

The Bones' Building on one of Ballarat's main shopping boulevards, Lydiard Street, was constructed in 1886 in the Conservative Classical style.

The two storey commercial building is constructed of stuccoed brick with a bluestone plinth. The smooth surfaced upper storey is decorated with string courses and segmental window hoods, and a pediment surmounted by a name plate and building date. The Victorian balcony is decorated with an ornate cast iron balustrade.

In 1987 the City of Ballarat expanded the Fine Art Gallery next door into the Bones Building, and its ground floor is often used as a space for travelling exhibitions. At the time of photographing, it contained the Cecil Beaton exhibition of photographs of Queen Elizabeth II; an exhibition launched in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
