. For this assignment you will take on the role of a member of the Third Estate by choosing one of the three options below.
Option A: Create a flyer or pamphlet. Are you the artistic type? Does creating make you smile? Do you like to tell a story by creating? If so then this is the option for you! For this option, you will be conveying your feelings and experiences by creating a flyer or pamphlet. Please view the Flyer Directions and Grading Rubric.Directions: With the invention of the printing press, many revolutionaries turned to pamphlets that could be easily distributed to the public to express and spread their views. Pretend you are a revolutionary in France and create a pamphlet or flyer expressing the grievances and requests of the Third Estate. Be sure to address the following three issues in your pamphlet: unfair tax structure, inferior social status, and lack of educational opportunities. In addition to your "propaganda," include relevant pictures, an attention-getting title using alliteration or another literary device, and proper citations.

Option B: Write a Poem. Are you the type who likes to write? Does reading and writing poetry make you smile? Would you rather tell your story in a poem than verbally expressing it? If so, this is the option for you! For this option you will be conveying your feelings and experiences by creating a poem. Please view the Poem Directions and Grading Rubric. Directions: The people of France have a long and intimate history with the arts, including poetry and music. La Marseillaise, the French national anthem, was composed around the time of the French Revolution and served as a rallying cry for revolutionaries everywhere. Create an original poem or song highlighting the following three issues: unfair tax structure, inferior social status, and lack of educational opportunities. Include references to at least three specific grievances in your poem. Write a minimum of 15 lines.

What would it be like to witness, or even participate in, a heated debate between members of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd estates? Create a dialogue between the members of each of the three estates. Discuss their views, thoughts and feelings about the revolution and their demands. Be sure to address the following three issues: unfair tax structure, inferior social status, and lack of educational opportunities. Your dialogue must be a page long using this structure.
