Crisit Rinklin - Artist Mentor - Student Work

During the summer of 2012 a group of young artists from the Currier Museum Art Center worked closely with "Artist Mentor" Cristi Rinklin over a two day period, painting large-scale images of mysterioius and imaginative landscapes, using acrylic and gouache paints on "duralar" (a transparent sheet of paper). These paintings are inspired by Ms. Rinklin's monumental installation "Diluvial" situated in the Currier's Putnam Gallery, as well as select works from the Currier's collection including 19th century American landscape paintings by Albert Bierstadt and Jasper Francis Cropsey. In this project, Ms. Rinklin guided her students through the deliberate process of working abstractly on the front side, that includes elements such as whimsical clouds, expressive trees and rocks, and rushing waters. The luminous quality of these small works corresponds to Ms. Rinklin's monumental work.
Student Artists: Isabel Kim, Anna Tenn, Emma Blaisdell, Leah LeBlanc (ages 5-6).
