Resolved Question: The Blank Canvas............a poem-------c\c?

Within our minds, a canvas waits,
The subject to initiate.
A painting. destined to emerge,
As color, varied shapes converge.

Now view this drying work of art;
A soul-scape blend of many parts.
It hangs alone, upon a wall,
This single painting to enthrall.

As you approach, the details grow.
The texture of the brush-strokes flow.
The meaning, only half you view,
For that, not rendered, wholes the truth.
.
@ Cheese
Exactly...Instead of rendering an object in its entirety,
you paint it suggestively, letting the play of light against dark
and let the viewer complete the painting. What you don't paint
can be more important than what you do, in terms of rendering
an element of excitement for the viewer.
@Just a soldier.
Very insightful comments.Isn't this a metaphor
on so many aspects of our lives and interactions
with people.

@Lapiz
I think your suggestion of the simile, "This poem is like a pond's reflections"
is absolutely brilliant.
@ Nancy
I originally had "holds", but wanted to convey the two
halves combining to make a "whole". When I changed it to "wholes",
I liked the illusion it created of saying "whole" but having
the reader also think of "holds"
I decided to stick my neck out with this wording.
Edit.
I emailed the poem to several of my old college friends,( one who became an English teacher ) whether one can take the word "whole",pluralize it by adding an "s" and using it as a verb. One said "why not", while the other two aren't sure. One thought it was clever and within the purview of "Prose Artistic License". The first line I composed ended in "true", rather than truth. I may revise, saying the same, ending in true (which is also a truer rhyme).

As usual, I rushed to write it and rushed to post. It's an obsession I'm fighting to overcome, but it's more fun for me...the hectic pace, as if there's a looming, self imposed deadline. I was a store manager and supervisor for 38 yrs, so this "working" under pressure is ingrained in me.
Thanks,
Gene.
@ B B The other me.
Betty you voice some very thought provoking
points. I'm halfway teaching my barber to improve his
piano technique. I'm illustrating to him that silence between
his constant chord banging is just as important as filling every
second with sound. Music, painting and poetry are close siblings.
I've composed background "tone poem" piano pieces to accompany
a few of the poems I admire on YP.

Open Question: How can I get better at Art?

I'm doing Art for GCSE, because I really enjoy it, but to be honest I'm not much good. I really want to do well and get a C or a B, but I'm not sure how I should go about practising, and what supplies and stuff I should get. I've got about two years to get better, and right now I'm just drawing and getting better, but I want to do other stuff.
